Life Lessons of Baby Bunnies

By |May 16th, 2019|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , |Comments Off on Life Lessons of Baby Bunnies

Last week, we found a littler of baby bunnies buried in our flower bed.  My dog had been sniffing around a certain spot and when he began digging, he unearthed this group of babies, huddled together, their eyes still closed.  We managed to transplant them to another area where they could grow undisturbed.  We have been checking on the daily- watching them wake up and fatten up. Maybe it's these babies or the transition of winter to spring, but Ezekiel's illustration of dry bones coming to life has been marinating in my mind for the last several weeks.  Watching the rebirth of

He is Worthy

There’s a song that I have been singing all week and I can’t seem to get it out of my head. It comes from Revelation 5 where we read the story of a scroll that was sealed and in the right hand of the one who sat on the throne.  The scroll could not be opened because it was sealed with seven seals and only one who is worthy would be able to open the scroll.  It reminds me of  only one  who was worthy enough to wield Thor’s hammer in the Avengers movie (for those who are Marvel fans)

Stay Connected…

A dear friend of mine struggled with depression. When I came across the blog, A day in the Life of Depression, written by Jodi Harris, my heart sank. I felt as if I was reading a page out of my friend’s journal. I’ve heard these words before. “Who cares if the house is dirty? Who cares if the laundry doesn’t get done? If I don’t cook dinner, we can eat cereal. If I don’t show up to my life, someone else will, so the things I do around here, never mind. Someone else can do them.” Mental health isn’t something

Counselor

I was laying flat on my OB-GYN's exam table when I noticed the sign taped up on the ceiling that read, "I HATE THIS!" I chuckled as I read the words that most women feel but are afraid to voice aloud when they're about to be examined.  Fortunately for me, it was only a quick "measure-my-belly" pregnancy visit that day. It's the same sentiment I feel when I make that routine visit to the salon. I wish I could say I'm going there for highlights or a facial, but when I climb onto her chair, I know I'm in for

God of Everything

Years ago, I was preparing for a work meeting that I was leading. I was new to being a supervisor so I was especially nervous. There were some policy changes I needed to address with our team.   I remember praying and asking God to give me the words to say.  I also asked that He would prepare their hearts to receive it.   That morning came and I had butterflies in my stomach.  I am pretty sure my voice started out a little shaky from the nerves too.  Thankfully, when it was all said and done, the meeting went

In the Eye of the Storm

By |May 5th, 2019|Categories: Music|Tags: , , , , |Comments Off on In the Eye of the Storm

As I was driving on a stormy day, the rain poured down and visibility was poor. It was hard to tell how long the storm would last or how far ahead it was of me. And then it happened. After living in Texas for years, I was caught in my first hail storm. Non stop balls of ice came crashing down in every direction. It was so loud and I was frightened beyond belief. I feared that my windshield would shatter all over me. I couldn't pull over anywhere and I began crying hysterically. When would it end? Would I

Time off

By |May 3rd, 2019|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , |Comments Off on Time off

Today was my day off. When you imagine having  a day off, what do you see? A long, leisurely cup of coffee? A good workout? A nap? Watching a movie? Those are all delightful things.  However, that is not at all what my day off looks like... I usually have a list of things that I need to get done, in between school drop off/pick up, grocery shopping, laundry, going to see my parents, cooking, swim practice and basketball practice.  It's a whirlwind of activity in my house.  The clock on my computer currently says 8:57 pm, and this is

Be Still

By |May 1st, 2019|Categories: Music|Tags: , , , , , |Comments Off on Be Still

As most of you know by now, I am originally from New York aka the city that never sleeps. So, let's just say that hustling and bustling run through my veins. There was hardly ever a quiet moment in the near three decades I lived there. We were always on the move with places to go and people to see. In fact, my weekends were busier than weekdays, just jam-packed with one activity after another. It was normal to me and I just figured that's how life was meant to be lived. That was the case until the Lord stirred

Better than Barzillai

By |April 25th, 2019|Categories: Devotionals, Misc.|Tags: , , |Comments Off on Better than Barzillai

My grandmother (Ammachi) loved chocolate.  When we questioned Ammachi about her blood sugar levels, her response was pretty standard. "Who's checking?" she would say with a smirk.  And when this same 92 year old grandmother was asked ‘How are you doing,’ she had yet another clever and witty reply. “Better than Barzillai.” Perhaps you're scratching your head right now and wondering what I was wondering. Barzil-who?? I found his story in 2 Samuel 19. Barzillai was a kind and wealthy man. He had provided for the needs of King David when David was forced to flee Jerusalem during a revolt. After the
