Evergreen

Dallas isn’t known for its seasons (unless you count “cold” and “very hot”) but every year around this time, something really beautiful starts to happen. Trees that were barren start coming to life again. I drove by these particular trees recently and couldn’t help but notice the contrast. One looked like it was still winter, the other spring...and the little one hadn’t changed at all - it was still green. While I love the colors of spring, I am learning to appreciate the evergreens too. It certainly isn’t the first one that catches the eye. It is simply there as

He Knows and He Cares

Late last week I was struggling with remembering a password on a document at work.  It was one of those situations where I created the document and the password could not be reset without deleting the document.  I knew exactly what I had intended the password to be, so the only thought in my mind was that I miskeyed it when I set it up.  Frustration had set in and I knew that I would have to take time away from other people to try to work on unlocking the document at an already busy time.  And honestly, I was

Carrying the Weight

The first year of our marriage had humble beginnings. My husband picked up his whole life, leaving a business behind, to live in a new city with me while I was training for my career.  It wasn't easy for him to leave the home he always knew. Being apart from parents and close friends, we encroached on a new season of life where we were learning to build a new life together. I remember coming home to our sparsely furnished apartment after the first day of work since becoming a wife. The lights were dim, and it just looked depressing. My

A New Heart…

By |March 7th, 2019|Categories: Devotionals, Misc.|Tags: , , |Comments Off on A New Heart…

Our kitchen trash reached max capacity. So my son (who shall remain nameless to protect his identity), being the responsible guy that he is, tied up the trash bag and took it out. Weirdly enough, the trash was now out of the house, but a horrible trash smell (which wasn’t there before) was now inside the house. Where could it be coming from? I cleaned and sanitized the now empty trash can. I retraced my son’s steps from the kitchen to the garage and mopped up a few smelly droplets that must have leaked out of the bag during the

Blessings…In Disguise

By |March 6th, 2019|Categories: Devotionals|Tags: , , , |Comments Off on Blessings…In Disguise

Sometimes our blessings don’t look like blessings. A toddler throwing a tantrum. A long commute to work. A pile of laundry. A to-do list that seems never ending. Multiple shoes left by the door instead of the closet where they belong. (Okay - that one was personal). A toilet seat that is up. (Okay - that one was personal too.) It may be temporarily hidden but the blessing is still there. Your child. Your job. Your provision. Your purpose. Your family. Your spouse. Thank you Lord for all of it. ~Anu

Seek Him

I don’t know about you, but I do not have answers for the challenges that come my way. In fact, such circumstances leave me feeling sad and confused. Sure, talking about it to a friend helps. Reading a practical book is insightful. But the problem is still there and so is the unrest in my mind. Some days are just plain ol’ hard with the situations you face, right? Maybe a troubled marriage or a health crisis has you stressed out. Maybe your child’s poor choice or your finances leave you sleepless at night. What can you do? Take it

A Light in the Darkness

It’s not fair!  This is a phrase I hear at least once a week from one of my children.  And to be really honest, it’s something that I feel more times than I want to admit. How is it that when we try our best to do the “right” thing, often it feels like we end up with the short end of the stick? To be perfectly honest, I don’t have an answer for that. But what I can offer are some thoughts on how we can respond in a way that points others to Christ. The apostle Paul was

The Ticket

I was driving down the highway, having a lively conversation with my family when suddenly, I saw bright lights come out of nowhere flashing in my rearview mirror. I had no intention of speeding, but that didn't matter.  The officer had evidence. The time I spent sitting in my car as the officer reviewed my information in his patrol car was humbling.  All I could do was sit there patiently, awaiting the inevitable ticket he was preparing. Then, I began to think of why the law was there in the first place -  to keep me, my family, and other

Raise a Hallelujah

The "enemy" comes at us in many different ways. Fear, dread, anxiety, depression, opposition. I know we're only two months into 2019, but I've already experienced days in which the enemy is a little too close for comfort. But God. Numbers 10:9 "When you go into battle in your own land against an enemy who is oppressing you, sound a blast on the trumpets. Then you will be remembered by the Lord your God and rescued from your enemies." The verse above and the song below have become my anthem for 2019. I may not own a trumpet to "sound
