Little By Little

As we get older, we get wiser. For example, I’ve learned that I need a day off after the spring time change. Can I get a witness? Every year, it’s the same thing: spring forward an hour, be cranky the rest of the week.  Apparently, it was started to help the farmers out. All I know is in the fall, we rejoice. In the spring, there is weeping and gnashing of teeth and excessive coffee consumption. The whole phenomena of daylight savings time is intriguing. Last week, we had the ability to jump from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. just like that.

Today is a Gift

Dirty diapers. Frequent feedings. Sleepless nights. When preparing for parenthood, does anyone mention how exhausting it is? I honestly felt as if I was a walking zombie during those times while lugging around half of my house in a diaper bag to appointments and shopping. When covered in spit up and listening to incessant crying, my weariness would make me wish for the next stage of childhood when things would be "easier". It's funny though because as much as I struggled during those early years, I find myself now thinking those days were a walk in the park! Dealing with choices that

Big Dreams

By |March 17th, 2017|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook, Misc.|Tags: , , |Comments Off on Big Dreams

At a recent meeting, our leader, Anitha, asked us about big dreams.  It made me think about my future....and my past. Can I share a entry from my prayer journal 16 years ago (first time I've ever shared these!)?  I had a dream that seemed unattainable: "Lord, sometimes it makes me fearful of my passion and desire to be a doctor. Is it taking over my love for you [?]  Lord, it's like I want it so bad, but I'm scared of it, too. Please, Lord, show me the way.  If it is not your will, Lord, please show me.

Recalculating

I'm a Texas girl.  Born & raised.  I've lived in the Dallas area since I was 2 years old and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.  I love my city...I know my city...well, at least I thought I did. Recently,  I've ventured out to a few different parts of town where I hadn't been before.  And just today, I tried a different route home from work because of traffic (which is one thing I don't particularly care for in my city).  Each time I got in my car, I had this conversation with myself:  "Who needs a GPS?  I survived a

“Coach?!”

By |March 10th, 2017|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , |Comments Off on “Coach?!”

Earlier this year, through an unfortunate series of events, I was named the coach of my son's basketball team.  Before we get all excited and talk about 'girl power', remember that I called it 'unfortunate'.  I know nothing about basketball. Correction, I know that the ball goes in the hoop.  And as San Antonio Spurs legend Tony Parker put it once, you "need to score more points to win the game".  That's it. The end. My son plays in a church league that is run by volunteer coaches.  This is our second year to participate, and when we went for

Your Promise Land

By |March 9th, 2017|Categories: Misc.|Tags: |Comments Off on Your Promise Land

I have goals, you most likely have goals, and the Israelites had a goal. We all long to reach a Promised Land. In Numbers 33:51-53, God gives strict orders to the Israelites concerning their goal. 'When you cross the Jordan into Canaan, SET UP A HAMMOCK, AND RELAX IN THE SUN, for you have finally arrived.' Actually, it doesn't say that. (I just wanted to see if you were paying attention). It says..."When you cross the Jordan into Canaan, DRIVE out all the inhabitants of the land before you. DESTROY all their carved images and their cast idols, and DEMOLISH

From Tears to Trust

"I wasn't allowed to do that as a kid, so I'm not going to let my child do it either." Does that thought ever cross your mind? Growing up, it was a rare occasion for me to be away from home .. for sleepovers, school trips, or college. It didn't matter if everyone else was doing it. I wasn't everyone else. As a parent, I now understand why I wasn't allowed to do such and I think I turned out okay. So I figure I'll just apply the same logic with my kids and they'll turn out fine too, right?? Several months ago, I found

His-story

By |March 1st, 2017|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , , |Comments Off on His-story

An Indian girl walks into a Chick-Fil-A… (Isn’t this how all great stories start out?) In case you didn’t figure it out already, I am that Indian girl and I was at Chick-Fil-A this past weekend...on a Saturday of course, because we all know they are closed on Sunday (which is cool but not cool when you are craving a chicken biscuit sandwich after church.  I digress.) When we were ordering, I noticed that a woman in the line next to me had her sweater inside out.  And this wasn’t one of those sweaters where that was the style.  Her tags were

Running on Empty

By |February 24th, 2017|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , |Comments Off on Running on Empty

Do you know what it's like to run on empty? The bed of this sermon is the story in Mark 5 of the demon possessed man who comes to Jesus. I started listening to it with one intention and and it transformed into a different animal for me.  There were so many beautiful points that spoke to me- I hope that it touches you as well. https://youtu.be/DDiLIc3KO9Q   ~Shiney

Even If

By |February 24th, 2017|Categories: Misc.|Tags: |Comments Off on Even If

In Daniel chapter 3, three young men knew their God could do the impossible...but EVEN IF He chose not to, their hope remained in Him. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied, 'King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. BUT EVEN IF HE DOES NOT, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have
