I Am!

My husband has a special styling routine for my son's hair before school. When it is completed, my son will walk to me and receive the usual compliment, "Wow! You look so handsome!" He got used to this routine of the styling and Mommy's comment afterward. After some time, I got busy when he came to me as I was distracted with other morning responsibilities. I didn't compliment him as I had done before. He had a solution. After his hair was fixed up, he would pull on my leg and say, "Mommy, I handsome!" He believed it for himself!

From the Inside Out

I have found myself in unchartered territory lately: enjoying time for a hot shower, to style my hair, apply my make up, AND coordinate a pretty outfit. Perhaps it's not the riveting answer one may have imagined. But allow me to explain. Since I became a mom, having time for myself became a thing of the past. It's just one of the perks of early motherhood and besides, it's not a permanent situation. Or so I thought. When faced with the unexpected and for an extended period, caring for myself literally sank to the bottom of my to do list.

Option B

Sometimes life doesn’t turn out how we thought it would. When I was young, I played house like any other girl. I wasn’t thinking too much about the husband part but of course, there were always baby dolls involved. Thankfully, I eventually did start thinking about a husband and God provided (and He provided a great one at that). Life continued. We began our careers. We got a house so it seemed like the next logical step was to start expanding our family. But that didn’t happen. We tried various treatments but nothing worked. A part of me was disappointed

The Choices of Success

I consider myself a fan of NBA basketball. But I have to admit, I only start watching basketball when the playoffs begin - and that only if the Dallas Mavericks make it into the playoffs. I do however really enjoy watching the NBA finals….even if the Mavericks aren’t playing :-). Recently everyone’s been talking about the latest “it” person in the NBA...Stephen Curry. This 28 year old husband, and father of 2 who has been outspoken about his faith in God....is a 2 time NBA MVP, lead his team to win the NBA finals in 2015, and is currently playing

By Faith…

I love to glean from the wisdom of the aged. So today, while visiting my parents, I asked my 92 year old grandmother (I call her Ammachi), if she had a word of encouragement for our Whispers & Fringes Readers. She requested her Bible, and with the help of my translator (and husband), she shared the following. My Ammachi asked me to consider the great faith of Noah. Hebrews 11: 7a "By faith, Noah built a large boat in the middle of dry land. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE, and acted on

Speak Life

Last Friday, my morning started off like any other. Actually, it didn't. My coffee maker decided to stop working. I had woken up late and grumpily problem solved my way to a cup of coffee. I should have taken that as a warning for the rest of my day. After work, I had committed to giving my neighbor a ride to the airport. I had 30 minutes to get home, change, and screech to a stop in front of their home. As I hurriedly packed up my things at the end of the day, it seemed as though every one

The Tapestry of Life

A few years ago, I was shocked to discover that I had failed a major exam that I had spent months studying for. As I sat in front of the computer that displayed my result, I felt absolutely devastated. I knew I needed to retake it and didn’t know how I could study for it all over again, and this time, while pregnant, working, and caring for our home. Although I don’t understand all the reasons I went through that challenging season, I knew deep down that God was in control. That was my saving grace. Without that hope, I

The Beauty of Restoration

My first car. My initial earnings from my first job, which felt like blood, sweat, and tears, went towards this major purchase. My car traveled across the country from the Big Apple to the Lone Star state. It transported each of our newborn children home from the hospital. Not to mention the instruments and youth from Church for choir rehearsals. Countless memories. Sixteen and a half years. Over 200,000 miles! What a blessing to have had such a reliable, great ride for so long. Inevitably, wear and tear kicked in. I resisted as long as I could to purchase another
