Different, Yet Alike
"I think we're more different than we are alike..." I brushed off my husband's comment. I admit that I felt a bit hurt... but the more I thought about it, I realized he was right. I can sit through a Hallmark movie marathon, he prefers anything involving the Mafia. I like chicken, he likes steak. I crave brownies, he loves cheesecake. I'm a homebody, he finds any excuse to go out. I enjoy hanging out in my comfort zone, he's a risk-taker. In discussing his relationship with his wife, former professional football player Tim Tebow said "...We don't really have
Go and Get It
“The people of Joseph said to Joshua, “Why have you given us only one allotment and one portion for an inheritance? We are a numerous people, and the Lord has blessed us abundantly. “If you are so numerous,” Joshua answered, “and if the hill country of Ephraim is too small for you, go up into the forest and clear land for yourselves there in the land of the Perizzites and Rephaites.” (Joshua 17:16-17 NIV) Did Joshua just say, if you want it then to get to work? Yes he did! Joshua had been leading the people of Israel into Canaan
It was just so Strange
It was the strangest thing. The year was 1999. I had just gotten married, moved across town & I was in search of a new job, closer to my new apartment. I made some calls and sent out my resume. After some time, I received a call back from a district pharmacy manager. He was upbeat and we seemed to connect. It was promising. “Could you meet me at our newest store on the corner of MacArthur and LBJ Freeway? It’s about to open and I think it would be a good fit for you.” He didn’t have to ask
The Not So “A” Team
Have you ever looked around at your life and thought "How did I get here"? My Bible reading this week has taken me to the escapades of David. He has gone from shepherd boy to giant killer to anointed king, and currently, in my reading, he is a fugitive. What a crazy series of events. What particularly spoke to me this week was the story of how David became commander over his group. He is alone when he runs away from Saul and ends up in the cave of Adullam. His family hears about his location and they decide to
A Woman of Your Word
We all have these people in our lives. ?People who we wonder if they’ll actually show up when they said they would. ?People who tend to back out of a project after they’ve committed. ?People who promise you something then don’t ever seem to deliver. People who don’t keep their word. •Yes, things come up and life happens. We all get that. But for these people, that typically isn’t it at all. It’s usually because they just don’t feel like doing what they said they would do anymore. They had the enthusiasm when they said yes but when the time came, the shimmer
Staying Committed
I went up for every altar call, called every 1-800 prayer line, I fasted, I prayed. I needed a breakthrough. It’s funny how committed I can be when I’m desperately in need of God to act on my behalf. And then there are times when life is good and I can barely make it to my church’s Wednesday morning prayer service...on line. ??♀️ It seems I’m not the only who has a hard time staying fully committed when the pressure lifts. In Joshua 5, the Israelites are forty years removed from slavery and have finally crossed the Jordan. Time to
Worthy of Our Praise
Have you ever had a week or two where you feel like you’re just always on the go without a moment to think straight? The past few weeks have felt like that for me that I was certain my head spinning on more than one occasion lol. In the midst of such, the Bible has been what has kept me grounded. I am thankful for the truths revealed in each verse about the Lord and His amazing love. I just can’t help but feel an overflow of gratitude to our Father for His kindness. In fact, these lyrics from “When
Lessons from the Playground
Earlier this week, I spent two entire days on the playground with my children. Like a 9-5 job, we were out there all. day. long. My sister and her family were visiting this week during Spring Break, so we trekked out there with our water bottles, snacks, wet wipes, and sunscreen and parked ourselves on a bench while the kids shot straight for the swings and sandbox. A picture of my to-do list danced in the back of my mind a few times, but I pushed it aside. We walked up a small hill and as my boys blew bubbles,
Your Struggle
Your struggle is not against flesh and blood. Yes, I’m talking to you. If it weighs you down. If it causes anxiety in your heart. If you’re losing sleep over it. It’s not about flesh & blood. If it causes division. If it’s tearing apart your church, your family or you. It’s not about flesh and blood. Ephesians 6:12 tells us “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Tony Evans says it this
A Willing Heart
Fun fact about me: I drive a mini-van. If it were up to my husband, I’d be driving an SUV. But I just love the ease and space that comes with a mini-van. What I have found interesting though is how the vehicles in my vicinity react when they see my mode of transportation on the road. Without question, if they are coming up behind me, they immediately change lanes to pass me. I guess the assumption is that it’s a mom-mobile and it will only move at the pace of a snail. The big surprise, however, is when I
