The Covenant
The weeks leading up to our wedding were peaceful...for me. I jokingly say that my husband was the “bridezilla” because he planned most of the wedding. He likes the details. So, my role was to agree or disagree, and honestly, I preferred it that way. One day, I was asked to make a decision. It should have been simple. I was visiting the florist with my future sister-in-law to decide on my bouquet and the table arrangements. The florst showed me so many different possibilities in her book that I was getting dizzy. Yes, that arrangement looks gorgeous...lets go
Quirky but Loved
I've been told that I'm a little on the quirky side...and I can see why. I don't like what the average girl likes. I'm not a fan of floral arrangements, massages or manicures and I'd rather be at home than on vacation. I like to think of myself as unique. And it's nice to know, I'm in good company. When I look at the twelve companions that Jesus chose to hang out with, each one was also a little on the quirky side. Peter was quick tempered, Thomas had a hard time believing others, John was a little braggy....I think you get my
All the Feels
“At the end of the day people won't remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.” There is some question as to who actually said that (most say Maya Angelou) but regardless, there is some truth to that statement. Rewind...2 weeks ago. It was my birthday and I did what most grown-ups do on their birthday - I went to work. I expected it to be like any other day...but it wasn’t. I walked in and my cubicle was decorated with banners and birthday confetti on my desk. My friend, Sweena brought
Not Your Ordinary Fairy Tale
Once upon a time in a land not so far away, there was a day that felt sad and gloomy. What should have been a happy day, a day to celebrate, instead just felt heavy with loss and questions. Joy seemed distant in spite of one’s efforts to make the most of the moment. Then, appeared a gift. A thoughtful, selfless, beautiful gift. It was a wall hanging with just six words: IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL. The giver of the gift summarized their intent for purchasing it by saying, “We know this is a difficult time. But we
I Pray You See Hope
Just when we think it’s over. It’s not. In the later chapters of the book of Ezekiel, the Israelites were at their lowest point in history. They were not only exiled to Babylon, their sacred temple had been destroyed. In the natural, things looked bleak. But in Ezekiel chapter 47, God gives Ezekiel a vision of a new temple, and in the vision, an angel serves as Ezekiel's tour guide. “Son of man, do you see this?” the angel asks Ezekiel. A small trickle of water was streaming from under the south side of the new temple. And as Ezekiel and
What’s In…You?
I like big purses and I cannot lie… I’m not a fancy brand kind of girl. I don’t like to change out purses either. I just want one purse that looks good and can hold EVERYTHING I need. My husband gawks at how large my purses are but when he wants hand sanitizer, lotion or gum, guess who he turns to? My friends have reaped the benefits of it too. What do you need girl? Ibuprofen? A pen, pencil or highlighter? Eyebrows need tweezing? I’ve got you covered. The bridal/baby shower game called “What’s In Your Purse?”...that is MY game.
A Letter to You My Friend
Dear Friend, As I prayed for you, I sensed that you may be walking through an overwhelming situation today. You thought your life was okay and you were doing everything right until … suddenly. Now, you feel discouraged because your life isn’t the same. You are frightened because you don’t know the duration or the depth of this challenge. You feel hopeless because you don’t know how or if you will even emerge from this situation. Daniel chapter 3 tells the account of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They loved God and they were highly respected officials in Babylon. Until …
Kindness
The woman described in Proverbs 31 sounds like a rock star. She is smart, industrious, financially savvy, and honored by her husband and children. She dresses in fine clothes and extends her hands to the poor. She has no fear of the future and she laughs at the days to come. What an amazing woman! She sounds like a woman I wish I could be. But with all her admirable qualities, something that stood out to me is that the scripture says when she speaks her words are wise, and she gives instruction with kindness. Kindness. In today’s
Winning
My daughter was about to be voted in as the leadership representative from her class. I could feel it in my bones. The campaign preparation included an attractive poster - which included glitter, of course. We spent hours putting it together. And the speech was engaging, likening leadership qualities to items at a grocery store- easy for any second grader to understand. She even dressed the part on voting day, donning a floral dress with a strand of pearls. My daughter just fit the part, and I was proud of her. Those other kids didn't stand a chance. That evening
