Are You Doing Your Job?

By |August 3rd, 2018|Categories: Articles, Devotionals, Facebook, Misc.|Tags: |Comments Off on Are You Doing Your Job?

Summer vacation was not all fun and games for me when I was growing up.  My dad gave us assignments like book reports on a topic from the encyclopedia and dropped us off at the library for hours. We groaned, but giving us work to do likely kept us out of trouble during those long summer days. David was God’s chosen king who proved to have an intimate relationship with Him as noted through his songs in the book of Psalms. We remember David as a young shepherd boy, an unlikely choice for a king. Yet, he was chosen by

Not Just a Road Trip, but a Spiritual Journey – The Screw

By |July 31st, 2018|Categories: Devotionals|Tags: , , , , , , |Comments Off on Not Just a Road Trip, but a Spiritual Journey – The Screw

This month I have been sharing with you what God revealed to me from the beautiful sights we were mesmerized by on our vacation.  However, the photo in this post does not show anything majestic or breathtaking. Yet, I learned something from this scary screw. We had just driven one and a half days to arrive at our first stop on this long awaited road trip.  The only thing running through my mind was the excitement of seeing the Four Corners Monument. We all jumped out, my husband walked around to my side of the minivan, and let out a

You Say

By |July 27th, 2018|Categories: Facebook, Misc.|Tags: |Comments Off on You Say

My family is obsessed with this song right now... Sometimes you need to remind yourself of what HE says about you, even if you don't believe it... ~Shiney You Say by Lauren Daigle I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I'm not enough Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low? Remind me once again just who I am because I need to know You say I am loved when I can't feel a thing You say I am strong when I

A Swig of Cough Syrup…

By |July 25th, 2018|Categories: Articles, Devotionals, Facebook, Misc.|Tags: , , |Comments Off on A Swig of Cough Syrup…

True story. A man walks up to the pharmacy and wants his prescription refilled. Me: “Uh...Sir, this cough syrup was just filled five days ago. It should last you at least ten days. Are you taking it as the doctor prescribed? One teaspoonful, 5 milliliters, twice daily only if you need it for your cough?”Man: “One teaspoonful? 5 milliliters? I don’t measure it. I just take a ‘swig’  whenever I need it.” (If you don’t speak Texan, ‘swig’ is slang for a large gulp) Me: ? Sometimes what feels right isn’t always right...especially when we fail to follow the instructions we’ve

Step Back (And Let God Step In)

1 Samuel 13:8 He (Saul) waited seven days, the time appointed by Samuel. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and the people were scattering from him. 9 So Saul said, “Bring the burnt offering here to me, and the peace offerings.” And he offered the burnt offering. 10 As soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came. And Saul went out to meet him and greet him.11 Samuel said, “What have you done?” And Saul said, “When I saw that the people were scattering from me, and that you did not come within the days

Not Just a Road Trip, but a Spiritual Journey – Dead Sea Scrolls

By |July 23rd, 2018|Categories: Devotionals|Tags: , , , , , |Comments Off on Not Just a Road Trip, but a Spiritual Journey – Dead Sea Scrolls

While we were completing our road trip in Denver, the Museum of Nature and Science had an exhibit of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Having spent the last year reading through the entire Bible as part of Whispers and Fringes’ discipleship program, I could not have been more excited to see this exhibit.  Not only did we see the manuscripts and biblical documents found in caves near the Dead Sea, there were inscriptions and seals, weapons, stone carvings, terra cotta figurines, coins, shoes, textiles, mosaics, ceramics, and jewelry that were 2,000 years old. What caught my attention in particular were

Empty Promises

By |July 20th, 2018|Categories: Articles, Devotionals, Misc.|Tags: , , , |Comments Off on Empty Promises

“I promise I’ll do it” is a phrase I would constantly repeat in the first year of my marriage. Whether I would be referring to washing the dishes or paying a bill, it was one of those things I would just say. I am usually a woman of my word. If I say I’ll do it, I’ll do it. But, it wasn’t long before I realized that what I guaranteed wasn’t being followed through. Soon after the promise, dirty dishes would be stacked up in the sink and bills would be left unpaid. Life just got busy, and I realized

Yeah, But God…

By |July 19th, 2018|Categories: Devotionals|Tags: , |Comments Off on Yeah, But God…

Moms (and the Bible) know best. I don’t know if this woman in the video is a believer or not but what she shares has some scriptural backing to it. She challenges her kids to follow up any negative statements with a “Yeah, but…” and find the positive in it. My dad has had a few hospitalizations recently. While there have been many points of frustration, we have had our own “Yeah, but…” moments too. He had to be rushed to the ER...yeah, but my mom was with him and able to drive him there. He has been in the

Finding Goodness

By |July 18th, 2018|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , , |Comments Off on Finding Goodness

A few weeks ago, we went to Dave & Busters with some friends.  The kids had a great time playing all of the arcade games and earning tickets.  As we wandered from game to game, I was genuinely surprised at how many 'tokens' some of the games took to run.  I had this sinking feeling that our tokens were going to run out before our kids would run out of energy. We walked up to one particular game- a 'Wheel of Fortune' type of game.  It took roughly 10 tokens to play.  All you had to do was spin the

Not Just a Road Trip, but a Spiritual Journey – Rocky Mountains

By |July 16th, 2018|Categories: Devotionals|Tags: , , , , |Comments Off on Not Just a Road Trip, but a Spiritual Journey – Rocky Mountains

When planning for our visit to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, I was filled with excitement and I just could NOT wait to get there! However, travel tips indicated that there was some preparation involved. In order to avoid altitude sickness, many advised to drink more water than usual. Here’s a “fun” fact about me on road trips: I drink a limited amount of fluids.  Drinking more than usual means increased visits to public restrooms which I HATE.  I know, that’s a strong word but I have quite an aversion to using a public restroom.  I began to tell myself
