Sand Between My Toes

By |August 17th, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Comments Off on Sand Between My Toes

I love the beach.  It is a feast for my senses. I love staring at the beautiful water with the contrast of the sky and sand against it. I love the feel of the warm sand on my feet and the cool water on my toes.  I love the sound of the waves crashing against each other.  It is my happy place. The absolute one thing that I love about it the most is that it truly reminds me of God's grandeur- His awesome power and how he could create such diversity in our world.  It is such a mystery to

Inspired by a Great Mentor

By |August 16th, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , |Comments Off on Inspired by a Great Mentor

There are parts of my life where I look back and think, "I wish I had done differently.  I didn't know.  If only someone had told me." For example, when I was a newlywed, I naively expected wedded bliss.  Imagine my surprise when our first Thanksgiving came and my husband and I couldn't decide whose family we would celebrate it with.  This led to our first serious argument because neither of us would compromise.  All of my friends appeared to be happily married so I figured something was wrong with us and felt incredibly discouraged. There's the instance when I first

The (Direct) Object of My Faith

By |August 13th, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , , , |Comments Off on The (Direct) Object of My Faith

Here’s something you probably haven’t thought of in a really long time: Diagramming sentences*. When you diagram a sentence, you look at the function of each word. Subjects, verbs, and adjectives are usually involved but sometimes you also have a direct object and indirect object. If you are now having flashbacks of middle school English class, I apologize but I promise there is a point to all of this. I have a friend who has been dealing with some medical issues recently. She had a particular procedure done twice without success. After completing it for the 3rd time and waiting

Practical Lessons from Mark Cuban

By |August 12th, 2016|Categories: Articles, Misc.|Tags: , , |Comments Off on Practical Lessons from Mark Cuban

Here's a little motivation from billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban on reaching your goals. My favorite quote from this article is "The one thing you can control in life is your effort". While we can't control our situation or circumstances, we can control how we respond, and ultimately that influences our outcome.  I hope this motivates you, as it did me. - Vijoy http://www.daveramsey.com/blog/practical-lessons-from-mark-cuban

Respect His Word

By |August 11th, 2016|Categories: Misc.|Tags: |Comments Off on Respect His Word

As soon as my children were old enough to understand the words "pool table," my husband taught them an important house rule- "respect the game, respect the table." About a month after we bought our first home, we purchased a pool table. It was a significant investment in a game my husband enjoyed. Once my boys were tall enough to see above the table, my husband taught them the rules to the game. His hand on their hands . Instructing them where to hit the cue ball. Always reminding them to think one step ahead in order to be prepared

Freedom

"Whoo! It's hot out here Ya know? I don't mind though Just glad to be free Know what I'm saying..! Take the shackles off my feet so I can dance I just wanna praise you I just wanna praise you..." I imagine a prisoner being pounded by the harsh sunlight and heat when he first steps out of the prison doors.  Yes, it's hot, but I'm free.  Get those chains off me, I wanna dance!  These are the first few lyrics from "Shackles" by Mary Mary,  a catchy tune that calls us to praise God through our circumstances. We are sometimes bound

The Finish Line

By |August 9th, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , , |Comments Off on The Finish Line

It's quite exciting to watch the Olympic Games and its races, competition, and victories. The athletes makes it appear as if their participation is effortless.  Yet, becoming familiar with the stories of the athletes clearly indicates that their arrival to the Olympics didn't just happen overnight. Carl Lewis.  Bonnie Blair.  Michael Phelps.  Gabby Douglas. These Olympians began training early (some as young as 3 years old!), some even moving away hundreds of miles from home to train with specific coaches, and ultimately training for several hours a day.  In fact, in Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell famously created the “10,000 hour rule”—the belief that becoming a success

Same You. Different Reaction.

By |August 6th, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook|Tags: , , , |Comments Off on Same You. Different Reaction.

True story.  I have had people tell me that I ask too many questions. It happened once at a wedding reception and again at a department lunch at work. I thought I was just making conversation. Apparently, they didn’t take it that way. I have been complimented for being easy to talk to. It has happened with friends and with strangers. I thought I was just making conversation. Apparently, they were glad I did. One person’s compliment of you may be another person’s criticism. Same you. Different reaction. For you, people may ask why you started that blog or ministry.

In His Image

By |August 3rd, 2016|Categories: Devotionals, Facebook, Misc.|Tags: , |Comments Off on In His Image

I was preparing for a formal function and finally decided on a hairstyle that I wanted to try out for the event.  The picture of the up-do was carefully selected on my phone so that I could easily show the stylist at the salon.  The celebrity looked gorgeous with each strand of hair beautifully pinned in place.  I was excited and couldn't wait to see how it would turn out. An hour later, the stylist spinned me around on the swivel chair and lo and behold, I took the first look at myself. I looked nothing like the celebrity.  Yes, I had curls
